Glasgow Students, Things To Do Part II

Blog 5!! I really hope you have all enjoyed this wee blog series of mine and can take something away from them. Following on from last weeks blog is part two of things to do as a student! Everyone seemed to like having some inspiration of things to do just now so hopefully this weeks blog will do the same!

The Craft Pottery

The craft pottery Glasgow

This is a hidden gem in Glasgow that I have recently found. The Craft Pottery is a new pottery painting and craft studio in central Glasgow. If you are looking to do something different and artsy this is a great place for you! (even if you aren't I promise it is such a fun place to go and definitely was the highlight of my week when I went)

You can choose many different activities at The Craft Pottery with packages to suit everyone. My friends and I decided to go for the pottery painting session which was a 2-hour slot. You can pick and choose from lots of different blank things to paint, whether this is a functional or decorative piece. With the ability to customise items to give as gifts or keep for your own. They also have different stencils, stamps and inspiration boards to aid in the creation of these masterpieces if you aren't so sure.

Most of all this activity does not break your bank! There is a standard £3 per painter charge and then you pay for whatever item you pick, these range in price. But just to get a rough idea the jug cost £12 and the small animals £7.

Our creations
Our Creations

We all had such a fun evening, making our keepsakes and found it so therapeutic! Definitely needed after a long week of online uni.

The studio also has a "Bring Your Own Bottle" policy, with no corkage fee. Even better you can paint away with a nice glass of wine!

You then leave your creations to be glazed and fired, turning them suitable for food, microwaves and dishwashers (this takes up to 10 days) What more could you want.

I would 100% recommend this place as something different to try, we all had such a great evening that was inexpensive yet unique.

head over to The Craft Pottery Website or their Instagram to book!

Cycling

This wee activity is ideal if you are wanting to get out of the flat. There are so many bike hire stations dotted about the city (a map can be seen on the app).
All you have to do is download the "nextbike" app to register your account. You have to pay a £5 deposit to start with however the bikes are free for 30 minutes and only £1 per 30 minutes after that. This is such a fun activity that is ideal during COVID times with a lack of indoor activities available. Getting some fresh air, seeing the sites of Glasgow all on a bike for only a few pounds, sounds ideal right?

Glasgow Buskers

This is maybe something you may not necessarily think of doing when you are bored but something I realised I love seeing in Glasgow. As after all people do make Glasgow! How about heading into town (Argyle, Buchanan or Sauchiehall street) and see what buskers are about. With different ones every day it can be entertaining to watch and enjoy the atmosphere they create in the streets. Not long ago I came across Daniel Docherty on Argyle Street and absolutely loved his music, giving me some inspiration to add to my Spotify Playlist! How about you do the same!

A trip to Balloch

Fancy getting out of Glasgow for a day? Why not head to Balloch. Only a 50 min train journey from Glasgow, there are hundreds of beautiful walks around Loch Lomond. I would recommend the Boat House in Balloch as a lovely place to grab a coffee after a walk.

Wilson Street Pantry

A go-to place if you are a brunch lover like myself! Located in the Merchant City, Wilson Street Pantry is a chill cafe for breakfast, brunch and lunch eats all day with amazing coffees. Check out their Instagram (Wilson Street Pantry) for some tempting snaps of the yummy food. As brunch places go this is a reasonable spot in the city centre to grab a coffee/ brunch. But I would recommend booking as it can be very busy especially at weekends.
